New for 2026-27
Two changes worth knowing before you go.
- Fall turkey is back. Kansas re-established a fall turkey season after a three-year closure. It runs Oct 31 through Jan 31 with a 12-day closure over the December firearm deer season. Residents only, one bearded bird, permits on sale in early October.
- Nonresident waterfowl hunters face a midday cutoff on public land. On KDWP-managed lands, nonresidents hunting waterfowl, coot, rail or snipe must stop by noon and be off department land by 1:00 p.m. That pushes afternoon demand onto private ground — worth knowing if you have water.
Pricing your calendar
Not every open day is worth the same.
Legal shooting hours for most Kansas game are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset. Waterfowl and a few other seasons set their own hours.

Unit numbers refer to Kansas Deer Management Units, and several deer seasons are antlerless-only or limited to specific units — those limits are noted at the right of each row. There is no extended antlerless season in Units 1, 2, 17 and 18. Waterfowl dates vary by zone, so confirm which zone your property sits in. Squirrel season opened June 1, 2026, before this timeline begins.
